How to Choose Sunglasses for Your Face Shape
Share
The best sunglasses are the ones that make you feel like yourself. But a little face-shape know-how makes the choice much easier, because a good frame doesn’t copy your features: it balances them.
First, find your face shape
Pull your hair back, stand in front of a mirror and look at the widest part of your face. Is it your forehead, your cheekbones or your jaw? Is your face longer than it is wide? Most faces land in one of four families: round, square, oval or heart-shaped. Don’t worry about getting it perfect. This is a guide, not a rule.
Round face: add some angles
If your face is about as wide as it is long, with soft edges, straight lines add definition. Look for square or rectangular frames. The Biarritz and the Nice are both square acetate frames with polarized lenses, and they bring a little structure without feeling severe.
Square face: soften the jawline
A strong jaw and forehead look great with curves. Choose round or rounded frames to soften the outline. The Paris has a small rounded shape and a minimalist feel, while the Cassis goes big and round for a bolder statement.
Oval face: you can play
Oval faces are the most flexible, so let the colour, the material and the mood decide. Try a mirrored lens, a tortoiseshell acetate or a wood frame from our Wood & Bamboo range.
Heart-shaped face: keep the bottom light
A wider forehead and a narrower chin suit frames that are lighter at the top and a little wider at the bottom. Round shapes work well here too, and lighter colours keep the balance. Try the Paris again, or explore the women’s collection.
A few last tips
- Your frame should follow your brow line without covering it.
- Your cheeks shouldn’t rest on the bottom of the lenses when you smile.
- The frame should be about as wide as your face, or just a touch wider.
